Zafrán & Germinar
The agroindustrial model has been advancing in Argentina since the 1990s, leading to deforestation, displaced communities, loss of biodiversity, and threats to human health. Zafrán, a food company and member of 1% for the Planet since 2022, has partnered with the Germinar Civil Association to promote new forms of sustainable production that are friendly to both people and the planet. Zafrán's first donation was allocated to implement an educational, demonstrative, and productive agroforestry project in Escobar, Buenos Aires province, and their partnership has since expanded. This project is part of a Learning Center that encompasses 1.5 hectares dedicated to inspiring and working with local producers to grow food in a regenerative way. The donation was used to create the first experimental module, featuring a 7-line agroforestry system, each line stretching 30 meters long. Thanks to this initiative, the land was prepared alongside the local community, and with the assistance of Zafrán's team, a collective planting of 600 plants took place, including native, fruit, medicinal, and vegetable species, marking the beginning of the system.
