The Membership Intern Role

1% for the Planet is looking for an intern to provide support to our Membership Team, reporting to our Regional Membership Sub-Team. The internship will run for Summer Semester 2023 with the potential to continue to Fall Semester 2023. This role will be based out of our headquarters in Burlington with the opportunity to work remotely on occasion. 

The intern will collaborate on projects with the membership team and may have the opportunity to support other teams across the organization. Examples of potential projects include: support of the 1% for the Planet member Slack program, attending and supporting member events (likely virtual), upkeep of internal team processes, creation and production of the regional newsletters and more. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support in the creation of the seven regional newsletters and lead the copywriting prior to publication to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with Slack space owners in content creation, member engagement strategies and tracking, and the quarterly audit.
  • Contribute to the preparation and execution of virtual networking events across different regions and industries.
  • Support small business members via a shared inbox (Hiver), in collaboration with the Small Business team
  • Work cross-functionally across the organization with teams such as Brand and Marketing and Certification teams to support members beyond Membership Team projects.  
  • Each intern will hold a seat on 1% for the Planet’s Intern Advisory Council where we work to evolve the program.
 
Qualifications (the required skills):
  • Strong team player with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability and desire to develop supportive relationships with stakeholders, remotely as well as in-person
  • Established proficiency in Microsoft Office; Google (Google docs); experience with Salesforce preferred but not required
  • Passionate about the nonprofit sector, sustainable business, strategic partnerships and creating environmental impact
  • Comfortable engaging with others virtually (Zoom and Google Hangouts) and using platforms Slack.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Gain valuable experience in critical areas of career development such as customer service and communication, inbox management, CRM skills, data analysis, and relationship management.
  • Learn about different engagement strategies and their outcomes, through both Slack engagement and virtual networking opportunities
  • Learn a variety of technical platforms including Google Workspace, Monday.com, Salesforce, Hubspot and Hiver.
  • Strengthen cross-functional collaboration skills and management of multiple projects at once.
  • Utilize structured meetings to practice note taking skills and occasional public speaking with Membership team and all staff meetings
  • Gain experience being a part of a dynamic, cross-functional team while building interpersonal and professional relationships. 
  • Practice task management and time management skills, with the support of tools like Google Calendar and Monday.com
  • Strengthen networking skills via opportunities to interact with the other 1% for the Planet interns, our staff, and members of Hula.

Please note: Currently, no 1% for the Planet staff members are required to work in our physical office space, even Vermont-based employees. Our team is currently either working from home or working a closely monitored hybrid schedule between their home and our headquarters. Any work done at our headquarters by 1% for the Planet staff members that choose to utilize the space is closely monitored by our team to ensure safety protocols for COVID-19 are implemented, regularly updated and upheld. We will safely arrange for any Vermont-based hire to be able to use our office space, should they request it. We will also work with any candidates to discuss a remote work schedule that feels most safe to them.
