Oceans, Conservation, Habitat
The mission of the Monterey Bay Aquarium is to inspire conservation of the ocean. Since opening our doors to the public in 1984, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has engaged more than 57 million visitors through our innovative exhibits and interpretation of marine life and habitats. We bring a unique voice and set of strengths to addressing ocean challenges and advancing ocean conservation. Through our conservation and science programs, we enhance ocean health in California and beyond, protect vulnerable Pacific Ocean wildlife and ecosystems, and promote improved sustainability of global fisheries and aquaculture. Through our integrated suite of education programs, we engage young people in experiences that inspire a lifelong interest in science and conservation and offer teachers valuable professional development. Since opening day, over two million schoolchildren and their teachers have participated in our programs free of charge.
