About Us

The Columbia Gorge Ecology Institute is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit education organization. The mission of the Columbia Gorge Ecology Institute is to provide educational opportunities with an emphasis on stewardship and a sense of wonder in the natural systems of the Columbia River Gorge. Through each of our programs we're cultivating the long-term sustainability of the Columbia River Gorge through place-based education, connecting communities and the unique nature of the region. The Ecology Institute's SECRETS program, a fifth-grade curriculum that meets state science standards prescribed by Oregon and Washington and has a measurable impact on student achievement, has been serving regional students since 1996. The majority of our constituents are low income families from minority populations. Our array of environmental science and education programs promote understanding and appreciation of the biological underpinnings of the local forest and shrubb-steppe ecosystems.
