Craig Mathews, with his wife, Jackie, is owner and founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, a retail fly-fishing outfitter based in West Yellowstone, Montana. In 1997, Craig began self-taxing Blue Ribbon Flies, giving 2% of its sales to local environmental nonprofits. This noble way of doing business led him to partner with Patagonia's Yvon Chouinard in founding 1% for the Planet. Blue Ribbon Flies has been awarded many environmental and conservation awards, notably The Nature Conservancy's Business Conservation Award for their efforts protecting wild trout habitat. In 2000, they received the Greater Yellowstone Coalition Business Award, for preserving and protecting the greater Yellowstone ecosystem. And in 2003, they were given The Lee Wulff Award by the International Federation of Fly Fishermen for their work on conservation and environmental projects in Yellowstone.
Formerly the police chief of the West Yellowstone community, Craig has authored five books on fly-fishing in the western United States and Yellowstone National Park and is renowned as an expert fly fishing guide and authority on flies for the sport.
