Clif Bar & Co., one of 1% for the Planet’s 1,100+ member companies, recently joined BICEP, a coalition of businesses calling for meaningful federal climate and energy legislation. Clif Bar is one of eleven businesses to sign on to the program which was launched in November 2008 by Ceres. BICEP advocates nine core principles which they believe will help simultaneously pave the way toward economic recovery and a solution to our global climate and energy problems. BICEP’s principles call for more aggressive action than the unrelated USCAP, an alliance of large businesses and non-governmental organizations currently working with members of Congress to develop a climate and energy bill.
Way to go Clif Bar – and all of our 1% members – for continuing to push the envelope in the business community!

We’re thankful our members, and you our supporters, recognize that every day we have an opportunity to give back to planet Earth. To highlight Earth Day however we found it would be fun to share one member’s story of celebrating in style.
From the mountains of Peru, Paul of Amazonas Explorer (member since June ’07) writes, “Check out what a group of 150 locals from Huaca huasi can plant in just 1 day – 10,000 trees when we all work together – its an amazing day out!”.
Paul continued to share, “We are loving being a part of 1% . .”. He revealed more projects Amazonas Explorer is undertaking throughout the year and that he is engaged in recruiting other area businesses to join 1% too. Well Paul, you have indeed provided a wonderful example of how beautiful and effective working together can be. We thank you for your passion, your participation, and send all of our best for the continued success!

That’s right, our newest auction offers a day of catch and release fly-fishing with famed angler, renowned guide, author, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies and 1% for the Planet co-founder Craig Mathews!
Craig will take the highest bidder and friend out on Montana rivers for a day this summer or fall. Complete with special fishing holes, spectacular views, and Craig tying a fly one-handed and blindfolded (ok, maybe not blindfolded), he’ll be sure to provide you with any required gear and end the day with a wonderful dinner enjoyed in good company.

1% for the Planet received a phone call this past winter with an opportunity to tell our story to a devoted readership interested in triple bottom line practices. Little did GreenMoney Journal Publisher and Managing Editor Cliff Feigenbaum realize, but his offer could not have been more timely. A global alliance with members representing 37 different countries thus far, we here at 1% for the Planet get quite excited at opportunities to take the movement on the road. This week we are pleased to reveal we are doing just that with a booth presence in Paris, France at the Planète-Durable tradeshow. In its second year, Planète-Durable is a unique rendez-vous with an objective for discovering concrete solutions towards a business world more respectful of our environments. Happening now, the tradeshow will run 10 am to 7 pm everyday through this Sunday the 5th. Our devoted volunteer in France, Caroline, will be available at the 1% for the Planet booth to answer questions for prospective members, current members and interested supporters. Please be sure to swing by and say bonjour!
