First off, Happy Inauguration Day! Please join us in applause for member Jack Johnson who has been invited to play the Presidential Home States Ball tonight. This is a phenomenal honor and we congratulate Jack for this recognition. With Jack’s spirit and commitment to the environment, we couldn’t think of a warmer welcome for our new president.

Second, the Winter Outdoor Retailer Show is right around the corner, this Thursday through Sunday in Salt Lake City. Not only will we be attending but we are proud to announce we’ll be hosting a Happy Hour in the Backcountry Village on Saturday from 4 to 6 with special musical guest, member Garett Brennan! Please join us! Terry, Melody and Kate will be in attendance along with many members, approved non-profits and friends. This is a great opportunity to meet and experience the energy of the movement in the flesh. We hope to see you there!

We know New Year’s resolutions can sometimes be tough to stick to, but that’s why we set them, to challenge ourselves. We applaud those interested businesses who have reached out to make the 1% for the Planet commitment in 2009. As Craig Mathews of Blue Ribbon Flies, one of our co-founders says, “probably the hardest check you’ll write is the first check”. After that, you’ll never feel better and you’ll realize you probably signed yourself up for the easiest New Year’s resolution yet.
