MGA Hosts Vancouver Members in Style
1% for the Planet held its most recent Member Networking event in Vancouver, BC on February 21, 2014 at the newly renovated offices of Michael Green Architecture (MGA) in Vancouver’s Gastown district. The event is part of a series designed to build collaborative relationships between local 1% member companies and the nonprofits they support.
Over 50 people attended the event, including many friends and associates of MGA staff who were new to the 1% for the Planet concept. Several 1%FTP business members were present to share their experience with the 1%FTP network, including representatives from MEC, Renewal Partners, and Saul Good Gift Co., along with a few of the local nonprofits they support, such as Georgia Strait Alliance and HUB. Delicious food and beverages were provided by MGA, along with entertainment by local musician Hannah Epperson.
Michael Green, the party’s host, spoke about his passion for giving back to his community through 1% for the Planet, and how he includes all of his staff members each year in choosing the nonprofits they want to support.
MGA specializes in wood buildings, and recognizes their responsibility to make choices through their work that support healthy forest ecosystems. In addition to carefully sourcing the wood that they use in their buildings, the firm’s 1% for the Planet contribution goes toward the well being of forests and the development of sustainable forestry practices.
On the window of the firm’s storefront, there is currently a display highlighting their commitment to 1% for the Planet.
The next 1% for the Planet Vancouver Member Meet up, hosted by MEC, will take place Wednesday, May 7th at the offices of SPEC.
