Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.
I’ve been a 1% member since seeing a video at a film festival in Columbia, S.C. a few years ago. I was impressed by the simplicity of the vision.
There aren’t many law firms participating in 1%. I suppose there’s not a great marketing benefit to be achieved with the 1% logo for law firms like there is for, say, an outfitter. But that’s not why I joined.
I joined for two reasons, really. One, to bind myself contractually to giving in a way that wouldn’t allow myself much wiggle room. It’s an assist in doing the right thing. And two, to associate myself with like-minded people. I believe in life that if you associate with people whose priorities and ideals match your own, good things will happen even though it may not be apparent on the front end what those good things are.
So no, I’m not expecting to answer a call one day from a prospective client who says “Hey, I saw you on the 1% site.”
But for anybody who cares to pay attention, this is a way of saying “These things matter to me.”
