A new year and a fresh start!

We hope that your new year has started off well, with renewed hope and commitment to achieving your goals, whatever they may be!

At EarthShare of Oregon, we’ve resolved to make it even easier for Oregonians and Oregon businesses to engage with environmental causes that matter to them.  Our first step was bringing on a part-time Marketing and Communications Associate to streamline our communications and free up more time for our Director of Workplace Activities.  Next up, more workplace and online giving campaigns!

We look forward to another exciting year working with our member groups and business partners, building on our successful support of conservation organizations and creating healthy, vibrant communities.

Put down roots with Friends of Trees

Friends of Trees has been busy in Portland over the last few months.  Fall and winter are prime tree-planting seasons and seeing the newly planted trees in neighborhoods throughout Portland is commonplace.   Since 1989 they have planted over 450,000 trees and native plants!  Find out how you can get involved!

Welcome, Karyn Verzwyvelt

Karyn

We are pleased to welcome Karyn Verzwyvelt to the office as our new Marketing and Communications Associate.  Karyn worked and volunteered for a variety of nonprofits in Bend before moving to Portland last spring.  She brings a wealth of online marketing and communications experience to the job, along with a passion for sustainability and riding her bike.  Karyn will be working hard to expand EarthShare’s visibility and recognition statewide.  When she’s not in our office, she’s helping clients feel better at Mudra Massage.   You can read more about Karyn here.

Drive less, pay less.

Pay-per-mile insurance has finally made it to Portland through a company called MetroMile.  Geared toward those who drive less than 10,000 miles per year, this insurance option could save occasional drivers 20-30% over traditional insurance.  This system motivates drivers to drive less, meaning less pollution and wear and tear on the roads–environmental benefits and cost savings for everyone.

Find out more from the Oregon Environmental Council blog or from MetroMile directly.

Remembering Ron Spencer

EarthShare Oregon is sad to note the passing of former board member  Ron Spencer earlier this month.  Ron was active on EarthShare Oregon’s board from 1999-2002.  He also dedicated many years of service with two of our member groups, the Tualatin Riverkeepers and the Portland Audubon Society.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Ron’s family and friends during this time.
