Harnessing the Sun’s Power with Las Vegas Students
What’s Las Vegas’ greatest resource? Its sunshine! One of the sunniest cities in America, Vegas is seeing a boom in solar construction. Black Rock Solar has been contributing to that growth with our recent projects in the area, and now we’re sharing the solar energy with local students.
Last month, 27 seventh graders visited the BRS-built array at Nevada State College. The students are part of I Have a Dream Las Vegas, the local chapter of the national I Have a Dream Foundation. While other kids are off on summer vacation, these “Dreamers” are enhancing their education through extracurricular programs.
Dreamers’ goal is to earn a college education, so this was a great opportunity to tour the campus, talk with students and see what the future holds. NSC representatives got the group excited about college life, and our friends at the GreenPower program added fun and inspiration with their solar power activity.
Justin Whitesides, BRS Southern Nevada Program Manager, took the group to see solar panels up close. Beneath the baking Vegas sun, our solar array is cranking out 207.6 kilowatts of clean energy and an estimated $28,000 in savings for the college.
It’s always inspiring for us to meet overachieving young people, and it makes us happy to share our enthusiasm for solar power with a new generation. Thanks for joining us, Dreamers, and we’re looking forward to watching you change the world!
