Garlic Festival In The Bag
The Sharing Farm would like to extend a very heartfelt THANK YOU to all our supporters, friends, and community who made our 5th Annual Garlic Festival a fabulous success!
You helped us raise almost $18,000 towards our mission of growing food, growing farmers, growing community. These funds help us keep providing fresh healthy food to the Richmond Food Bank and community meals programs, helping our neighbours in need.
We would like to thank our sponsors: the City of Richmond, Save On Foods (much appreciated pre-festival support), YVR, and Galloways. Thanks also to the community partners and exhibitors who added a sense of community and education to the event: Richmond Food Security Society, Family Place, BeeFriendly, Growing Chefs, 4Cats, and Fortis. And we extend gratitude for those all-popular freebies to: Daiya Foods, Happy Planet, and Nature’s Path.
Of course we couldn’t have held such an amazing event without the dedication of many volunteers. A huge thank you to the musicians who donated their amazing talent and their time, and made the festival festive! We appreciate everyone who helped with preparations, day-of, and follow-up. Special thanks to the Kwantlen Farm School students and Friends of the Greenhouse volunteers who staffed our market stands, attending to wave after wave of eager shoppers with their purchases of garlic, veggies, and winter plant starts. Also to volunteers who helped with ice cream sales, cob oven firing, and coordinating parking all the way out at Public Works Yard, Marie (Sign painter and volunteer extraordinaire), Graham (flyering), Marilyn (garlic braiding), Dave (beautiful chalkboard art), Yvonne (who worked right through tear down)— Leora (balloon artist), and everyone we may not have mentioned but whom we definitely appreciate – you are the heart of The Sharing Farm!
And then there was the food… mouthwatering cooking demos offered by chefs from West Restaurant, Blue Canoe, and Graze Restaurant – thank you! Steveston Pizza, thank you for piling up every surface in your kitchen with your amazing pizza creations that warmed up our cob oven and many people’s bellies. And Cel, our in-house chef and Kwantlen Farm School student who put in an amazing two days to serve up the most delicious roasted garlic. Thanks also to the food truck vendors: Varinicey, JapaDog, and FlipTop.
We appreciate the involvement of a hard-working high school group, “Gray to Green”, whose interactive setup including a bicycle powered smoothie maker was a popular attraction (thanks to a grant from the Richmond Youth Foundation). These students were a wonderful addition to the festival, so many positive reviews.
Finally, thank you to everyone who supported Garlic Fest simply by spreading the word, attending, and purchasing our garlic and organically-grown produce.
The Garlic Festival is a celebration of local food, our agricultural community, the joy of festivals, and of course our wonderful garlic! We hope you learned about what we do at The Sharing Farm throughout the year, every year. We appreciate your continued support.
