Program Specialist- Environment and Health

Edmonton, Alberta AB



This is a full-time, permanent position which reports to the Director of Health Initiatives.  This position provides program support to the Health Department and assists in the coordination of health initiative projects or programs with a special interest in the health effects of the environment including indoor and outdoor air quality. 

Job Functions:

  • Creates reports, grant applications and other correspondence while ensuring accuracy of health information
  • Compiles and analyzes research and information provided by private and public health  institutions and organizations and produces well-written reports
  • Promotes programs and services, produces newsletters, resource materials and other documents to provide information to association, organization members and the general public
  • Communicates and networks with key stakeholders and community partners; represents the organization in media, partnerships and committees
  • Develops strategic plans and budgets as it relates to the portfolio of focus
  • Assists with other programs as needed


  • A related university degree or college diploma (Environmental Science/Studies) required
  • A teaching background (Environmental education or Science education) preferred
  • Experience in a health related setting is an asset
  • Excellent research and evaluation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of regional/national legislation and policy on environmental issues
  • Valid Driver’s license is required and access to a vehicle is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with social media and website content management is an asset
  • Travel may be required
