Farewell and Thank You to Katie Knight, Rose Foundation Board Member!

Please join everyone at the Rose Foundation in saluting Katie Knight, who is stepping back from Rose Foundation’s Board of Directors after 17 years of outstanding service.

All of us will miss Katie’s wisdom and humor, and we thank her for her dedication to building and shaping the Foundation. In addition to serving as the Secretary of the Board, for many years Katie led our development committee. Under her watch Rose grew from an almost entirely volunteer organization to one of the most influential community funders in California.

Even before Katie joined the Rose Foundation Board, she was part of the Neighborhood Grants committee (Jill, Tim & Katie) who decided which of the tiny grassroots groups doing great work would receive Rose Foundation’s first $500 grants. Katie climbed over bags of mulch in community gardens and sidestepped broken glass at park clean up sites to find one deserving group in each Oakland City Council District to receive a grant award.

When the Rose Foundation’s indispensable Karla James went on maternity leave, Katie stepped up to the plate, taking a leave of absence from the board to work as the Rose Foundation’s first ever dedicated development staff person – relieving Tim of a host of development tasks so that he could take on Karla’s financial and administrative portfolio.

Katie is currently the Associate Director of Major Gifts at Earthjustice and has worked for a range of environmental organizations including Earth Island Institute and Californians Against Waste. She grew up in San Diego playing in the ocean and backpacking in the San Jacinto, San Bernardino and Southern Sierra mountains.

We wish Katie the best of luck with her future endeavors and thank her from the bottom of our hearts for the amazing work she has done at the Rose Foundation.

Thank you Katie!
