1% For the Planet Welcomes Patagonia Intern!
Lena comes to 1% For the Planet from Patagonia, where she collaborates with the company’s nonprofit partners along the central California coastline. Her focus is on exploring creative ways to use business to support and complement each organization’s respective conservation efforts. Her roots in the outdoor industry and her work at Patagonia give her a unique insight in to both the for-profit and non-profit facets of the business.
Lena’s hope is to bring her experience and enthusiasm back home to her native New England, with the purpose of helping our partners to re-envision their business models around the core value of environmental stewardship.
Before her work with Patagonia, Lena earned her B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Vermont, and furthered her literary study through Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States and the United Kingdom, climbing, bike touring, and attending literary conferences.
One of the things Lena has missed from her years in Vermont is real maple syrup, which she prefers in her coffee, but will gladly accept at any meal and any time of day. Lena Gives Back to Blue by integrating minimalist and localvore principles in to her daily routines and consumer choices.
In her downtime, you can generally find Lena playing in the Pacific or plucking around the garden with her hens. She finds inspiration in playing the piano, and listening to music the way it was meant to be heard – on vinyl.
