Your Summer Samurai
Hello! I am thrilled to be the newest member of the 1% for the Planet team as a Summer Samurai. I could never have anticipated meeting a group of such capable, dynamic, and vibrant people. I continue to be impressed by them everyday and feel so lucky to get to hang around 1 % for the Planet for the summer. The maple creamie breaks, dips in the Mad River, and visits from Barbara’s pup Blue only sweeten the deal.
I could not have asked for a more awesome start at 1% for the Planet than the weekend of the 1 Percent for the Planet Mad River Marathon. I had a blast whether I was seeing 1% for the Planet ambassadors Dwight & Nicole give an amazing live concert on the Waitsfield Town Green, listening to Stephen Ritz from nonprofit Green Bronx Machine speak, chowing down on a delicious meal catered by Skinny Pancake, or meeting committed 1% FTP members such as KleanKantee and Hug on a Rug… and learning about their impactful and pragmatic work. This summer, I will be working with New England Network Development and Outreach.
It is nearly impossible to grow up in the Pacific Northwest or to attend Middlebury College without developing a genuine dedication and affinity for the environment and our planet. What can I say, I just Love Blue. Environmental preservation is one of the most important problems challenging us today on an unprecedented scale. 1 % for the Planet’s work, message, and brand have resonated with me from the moment I heard about them. I believe that their approach of allying with corporations, individuals and foundations is the best way to make a real positive change. Looking for 1% FTP’s logo makes it easy for me to feel good about what I consume and use in my everyday life.
After work, I spend my time trail running, jumping into water, hiking, practicing yoga, eating lots of berries, and hanging out with dogs. I also enjoy paddle boarding with my beautiful Golden Retriever Gabby, experimenting with raw cooking recipes, and, last but not at all least, skiing. I am loving my first summer out East. Thank you for this opportunity, 1% for the Planet!
Follow me on the 1% for the Planet blog as I share the compelling stories, hard work, and accomplishments of 1% for the Planet members and partners. I’ve already had so much fun learning and writing about the Penobscot River Restoration Trust project and CycleVentoux’s premier bike-tours.
