It’s hard to believe, but Labor Day is right around the corner! And you know what that means… its Back-to-School season! We have a wonderful member company that works hard to make sure that when you send your child off to school they are taking a healthy lunch with them. I don’t mean that you need to feed them quinoa or kale, but you can store their lunches in eco-friendly containers.
“Making changes in your lunchtime habits is an easy first step toward a more eco-friendly lifestyle,” says Sandra Harris, president of ECOlunchboxes.com, specializing in no-waste and non-toxic lunchware for children and adults.
ECOlunchboxes joined 1% for the Planet this winter as one of our new members from California! Harris tells us that an average U.S. family spends about $400 on disposable lunchware and creates about 4,320 pieces of unnecessary trash every year, according to the results of their Lunchbox Waste Study.
Here are some tips on how to pack waste-free lunches:
-sandwiches & other main dishes, fresh fruits & vegetables, and treats packed in a reusable non-plastic container
-machine washable cloth napkins
-stainless-steel forks and spoons
-reusable non-toxic drink containers
-reusable, dishwasher safe non-toxic BPA free lunchbox
